Gifted Education
Gifted education is guided by the Georgia Board of Education Rule 160-4-2-.38 EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR GIFTED STUDENTS rules established by the Georgia State Board of Education. These rules help ensure that gifted students receive appropriate educational services and provide guidance for teachers, administrators, and families.
While the state sets the requirements for gifted education, local school districts have the flexibility to make many decisions about how services are provided so they can best meet the needs of their students and community.
The Atkinson County School System is committed to meeting the educational needs of all students, including those who demonstrate advanced academic ability. The Georgia Gifted Education Program provides eligible students with learning experiences that are more challenging and engaging than those typically offered in the regular classroom. Gifted services are designed to help students develop their strengths, think critically, solve problems creatively, and reach their full potential. Students qualify for gifted services by meeting eligibility requirements established by the Georgia Department of Education.
If you would like your child to be considered for gifted testing, please contact the assistant principal or school counselor at your child’s school.
Submitting a referral does not automatically mean your child will be tested. The referral will be reviewed by the Gifted Eligibility Team, who will look at data to determine if gifted testing is appropriate.
